SCHOLARSHIP.

The Datikka Wright Peebles Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Datikka Wright Peebles, a devoted servant leader and passionate advocate for education. Datikka believed deeply in empowering the next generation of leaders through learning, service, and integrity. She gave selflessly of her time and talents to organizations across Peoria, including the NAACP. This scholarship supports students who share Datikka’s commitment to community service and education, whether pursuing

higher education at a college/university or entering a skilled trade program.

Award Amount: $1,000
• Number of Awards: 2
• Application Deadline: Monday, April 20, 2026
• Award Notification: May 15, 2026

Eligibility Criteria

●      Be a public high school senior (list below) or current college/trade school student residing in Peoria County.

●      Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

●      Be accepted to or currently enrolled in a college, university, or accredited trade/vocational program.

●      Demonstrate a commitment to community service, leadership, and personal growth.

●      Submit a completed application, essay, and one letter of recommendation.

●      300 Word Essay (size 12 font + double spaced)

●      Two Letters of Recommendation (teacher, mentor, counselor, coach, pastor or community leader)

●      Submit an Official or Unofficial Transcript

●      Proof of Acceptance or Current Enrollment in a college university/accredited trade/vocational program

●      Original entries only, no Ai

Your essay should be written as a response to the following prompt:

Datikka Wright Peebles was known for her servant leadership, love of education, and dedication to helping others. Describe how you demonstrate these same values - 1. Servant leadership  2. Love of education  3. Dedication to help others in your life  4. Explain how furthering your education in college or the trades will help you become a leader in your community.

To expand access to new participants, individuals who have previously received a scholarship award, are not eligible to apply again for this scholarship.
