The NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. ACT-SO includes 32 competitions in STEM, humanities, business, and performing, visual and culinary arts. Almost 300,000 young people have participated from the program since its inception. Three Peoria-Area High School Students to Compete in the 2018 National ACT-SO Competition The Peoria NAACP is proud to announce that it has reinstated its local Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) program.
The local ACT-SO program is being offered in partnership with the Peoria NAACP and the Peoria Alumnae Chapter of Delta, Sigma, Theta Sorority, Inc. For more than 30 years, the mission of ACT-SO has been to prepare, recognize, and reward youth who exemplify scholastic and artistic excellence. The program involves local and national competitions in more than 30 areas, including STEM, humanities, business, and performing visual and culinary arts. The
Peoria NAACP held its local competition on April 30, 2018. We are pleased to announce that three of our local-area high school students – from Manual, Richwoods, and Peoria High Schools – will advance to the national competition. The national competition will be July 14-17, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. We are confident that they will excel at national level.
