FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK...
PASTOR
HIGHTOWER .
“God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us far on the way,
Thou who has by Thy might, led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path we pray.”
Greetings,
I would like to personally thank you for visiting our website. The NAACP Peoria branch is over one hundred years old which makes it one of the oldest branches in the association.
Our branch or unit is made up of committed volunteers just as the more than 2200 units across the nation.
Although we have made significant gains as a unit, association, and community at large, there is still more work to do. The fact of the matter is, anytime we make forward progress there is a backlash to try and undo what has been done. So, we must fight on for equity. We fight for equity because equality is not enough.
One of the definitions of equity I use is getting individuals what they need to be successful. Equity speaks to outcome-based fairness and equality. We fight for equitable diversity, equitable participation, equitable opportunity, equitable access, and equitable justice.
The Executive Committee and I would like to thank our sponsors and members for your continued support. We also invite our friends to become members as memberships are the life blood of our unit. After becoming a member, we ask you to get involved with one of our committees as we cannot do this work alone.
As the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but bends toward justice.”
When we fight, we win!
